Maple Glazed Oatmeal Cookies are a delectable treat with a creamy maple glaze. These chewy cookies are simple and irresistible. Baking them now or freezing them for the holidays makes them a keeper!

– 1 cup shortening – 1 cup sugar – 1 cup packed brown sugar – 2 eggs – 1 tsp vanilla extract – 3 cups quick-cooking oat – 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour – 1 tsp salt – 1 tsp baking soda – 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg – 1/4 tsp cinnamon MAPLE GLAZE – 2 cups powdered sugar – maple syrup – 1/4 tsp maple extract, optional

Preheat oven to 350F without greasing baking sheet. Cream shortening and sugars in a bowl or stand mixer.

Beat each egg carefully after adding it. Mix in vanilla. Combine remaining ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture.

Drop tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Flatten lightly with fork.

Bake 10-12 minutes until lightly browned. Move to wire rack to finish cooling after a few minutes on pan.

Before dipping, let the cookies cool completely to avoid breaking. Whisk maple syrup into sugar to glaze.

Add enough syrup to make the glaze drip-free when you lift the spoon and pour it on itself. Add maple extract if using.

I move the glaze to a wide shallow basin for easier cookie dipping. Dip each cookie (head first) into the glaze and pull up, allowing some drip off.

Step 7

Place the biscuit upright on a rack to dry. Try a few cookies and thin the glaze with water if it seems too thick. Add sugar if too thin.

After drying, the cookie's top should display crackles. Allow the glaze to set before serving or storing.
